Managed by Laura Grant, the Writers Group workshop allows writers to hear their work read and to get feedback. Attending actors are given pages to perform and the group evaluates the reading. Beginning writers and actors have the opportunity hone their craft and develop the critical skills necessary to create and appraise new work in a constructive environment.
Interested actors are always welcome - no need to RSVP!
Writers – Are you tired of hearing the voices of your characters only in your head? Are you ready to get unstuck in Act Two? Do you need to know if your comedy reads like a tragedy, or vice versa? Does your piece work better as a screenplay or would the story be best served in episodic television? The answers to these and many other questions are what we strive for in this group. We want to get writers to write, re-write, finish and get their work read and ultimately sold.
Chair Laura Grant (writer/lecturer/script analyst, member WGA, WGC) has worked in film and television for many years and has taught in the Graduate Screenwriting Program of the Cinema & Television Arts Department at California State University Northridge.
Laura moderates this supportive, constructive workshop where WRITERS have the opportunity to emerge from their caves and have their pages brought to life.
Pages are read aloud by ACTORS followed by immediate feedback from the group. If the pages fall within the script, a short synopsis (one paragraph) is required to bring the group up to date with the story. Copies of the pages are required only for the characters and narrator--extras not necessary.
The Writers Group meets every third Sunday of the month (except for holidays and other special circumstances).
