Do you want to meet, network and collaborate with other actors?
Do you want to brush up on your cold reading skills?
Do you have a scene that you've been dying to work on but haven't had the chance?
Our retooled Actors Group provides a safe and empowering space for performers to experience the fun and the challenges of the craft of acting. By working outside the pressure packed territory of casting calls and gig hunting, we create an environment that fosters experimentation and discovery.
We’ll examine technique and creativity along with the process of preparing for a role. After beginning with vocal and physical warm-ups, the sessions will open up to the practical elements of acting. Beyond standard reviews of improvisation, and text-based work we’ll provide opportunities to explore other performance talents including singing, stand-up comedy, mime, or whatever interests the group.
Our goal is to establish a sense of camaraderie amongst actors, replicating what we have on set or in a rehearsal room. The Actors Group will encourage the freedom of play and remind you why you wanted to become an actor in the first place.
Occasionally, the workshops may feature a veteran actor or media maker talking about how they made it, and fielding questions from the audience about the art, craft, politics and business of acting.
Leading the workshops will be Mhairi Morrison, an actress and comedienne who trained at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, in Glasgow and L'École Internationale de Théâtre Jacques Lecoq in Paris. Following her studies, she performed extensively in theatre, film and television throughout Europe. Mhairi is also a founding member of Presence Theatre Company. Here in Los Angeles, she continues to act, perform stand-up and write comedy, and remains passionate about protecting the sanity of performers while at the same time exlporing the mysteries of play.
