WIF PRESENTS EVENING OF SHORTS

"APRIL/MAY" written and produced by WIF Member, ERIN ISOBEL CONDRON
When April, a lonely African American girl, moves with her father to a predominantly white neighborhood, she goes on a school trip to an assisted living center with her Timber Girl troop. There, she befriends May, an elderly African American woman with dementia. The two concoct a rouse in order for April to win the cookie drive, with April pretending that May is her grandmother. But when the reality of May’s illness creeps in, it ultimately takes the form of hallucinations from May’s past in the French Circus, and April finds herself in over her head.

"HANDI CANED" by WIF Member, Writer/Director, SKYE KELLY
Like most people, Lettie took her lifestyle for granted, until her destiny was forever changed. Not yet ready to embrace her situation she feels helpless and doesn't want to let go of the past. At the fields' parking lot to watch her brother play baseball, the last handicapped parking space was taken by someone late to her dance class, who has yet to learn that lesson. This sparks a snap decision that unfolds a chain of events that empowers Lettie and unites two people who have been touched by disability.

"IN ORDER OF APPEARANCE" by WIF Member, Writer, HEIDI MASTROGIOVANNI
After forty years, a mother meets a daughter for the first time, a daughter finds a sibling rival, and a husband wonders what he missed. Over the course of a long afternoon, this reunited family gets a glimpse of what might have been.

"THE SILENCE OF BEES" by WIF Member, Writer, JOANNA PERRY-FOLINO
The bond between a father and daughter is sometimes impossible to break-even when they try.

The Independent Film Series is one of the most popular membership benefits WIF has to offer. On the 3rd WEDNESDAY of every month, ten months out of the year, WIF screens members’ feature films, documentaries and shorts – free of charge - at the Eastman Kodak Screening Room on Santa Monica in the heart of Hollywood.

The evening starts with a 6:30 PM reception followed by a 7:00 PM screening. IFS screenings are open for attendance to WIF members only, and the participating filmmakers must bring at least one member of the cast or crew to participate in a Q&A follow-up. In the past, many filmmakers brought the whole production team, making for an extraordinary evening to explore the business of collaboration and for exchanging ideas.

COST: None. This event is open to WIF members only.
