On Thursday, September 17, 2009, Women In Film and Entertainment Weekly hosted the first annual Female Primetime Emmy® Awards Nominees cocktail party and reception. In what was one of the hottest Emmy® parties of the season, over 300 industry actors, directors, writers and executives from the television industry gathered at the posh West Hollywood Sunset Marquis Hotel to toast the achievements of the women nominated for Emmy® Awards.
The party also celebrated the launch of Women In Film’s newest initiative, the Women In Film/Television & Media Committee. “This new committee has been a long time in coming,” said chair Danica Krislovich, former MTV Television executive and producer and founder of Guardian Productions, “and we are thrilled to be launching it in such a festive and important way.”
Krislovich explained the strategy behind the new committee. “We wanted to send a message to the community
that we are serious about the television and new media industries as well as the film business, and supporting women in their career endeavors both in front of and behind the camera.” Three new shadowing programs with MTV, ABC and TNT have already been announced by WIF/TV&Media and are underway, with more programs in the works.
Enjoying appetizers prepared by the hotel’s “Restaurant” and an open bar, and spilling out onto the patios was a star-studded crowd that included such luminaries as AnnaLynne McCord, Chelsea Handler, Sharon Stone, Elizabeth B
anks, Alyssa Milano, Jaime Pressly, Anne Heche, Sela Ward, Jenna Elfman, Sharon Lawrence, Erika Christensen, Cherry Jones, Michelle Forbes, Jordana Brewster and Sarah Silverman.
Plenty of men showed up for the party as well, including Beau Bridges, Gabriel Byrne, George Lopez, Ben McKenzie, B.J. Novak and Jane’s Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro.
The media was out in full force to cover the red carpet and the party itself. WireImage served as house
photographer. Other photo outlets in attendance included Berliner, Celebrity Photo, Corbis, Getty Images and Women’s Wear Daily. EW.com served as the in-house video crew and Extra had the broadcast exclusive. Additional film crews included Access Hollywood, CNN, E! News and WireImage/Getty Video. Red carpet arrivals and interviews were covered by E! Online, FoxNews.com, Glamour24-7.com, People Magazine and U.S. Weekly, and representatives from The Hollywood Reporter, The Wrap, the Associated Press, Daily Variety and the L.A. Daily News were also at the scene.
Co-sponsor Maybelline promoted their new Colorsensational Lip Colour and provided the much coveted end-of-party goody bag.
Women In Film wishes to thank our sponsors, Entertainment Weekly and Maybelline, for helping to make the event and the launch of the new committee a huge success. A special thanks goes out to Catherine Olim, Alicia Mohr and Jennifer Abel from PMK for their tireless efforts.
