WIF/ABC TV Director Shadowing Program

ABC TELEVISION NETWORK is partnering with WIF/TV&Media on a Director Shadowing Program. Candidates from Women In Film, Los Angeles are invited to submit on dvd a narrative work they have directed within the past three calendar years. The WIF/TV&Media Committee, together with the Disney/ABC Television Group Talent Development & Diversity committee, will select one member to shadow the director of “Hollywood Salutes Matt Damon: An American Cinematheque Tribute” from pre-production through live broadcast. They will select another qualified member to shadow the Executive Producer, Producer and Director of “Jimmy Kimmel Live” for one week. The deadline for submissions is Friday, March 5, 2010.

Eligibility Guidelines

  • APPLICANTS MUST BE ACTIVE MEMBERS OF WOMEN IN FILM LOS ANGELES ON OR BEFORE THE SUBMISSION DEADLINE OF 03/05/2010.
  • Applicants must have some professional or independent directing experience.
  • Applicants must be 18 years or older at the time of application.

Judging Criteria

  • All applicants will be evaluated by the quality of their submitted materials.
  • Selected applicants will be interviewed by the WIF/ABC TV committee.

Application Procedures

  1. Complete the application and provide all supporting materials requested.
  2. Ship (via mail or FedEx/UPS/DHL, etc.) the completed application package to:

  3. All application materials should be submitted in one package, and MUST be received (not postmarked) by Friday, March 5, 2010. Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted. Women In Film is not responsible for any material stolen or lost while in transit. For your own protection, please retain copies of all materials sent. Due to the volume of applications expected, we cannot confirm receipt. If you would like delivery confirmation, please add this feature to your package at the post office when shipping your materials or send your package via another trackable delivery service (i.e. DHL, FedEx, UPS.)

Supporting Materials

  1. Two (2) final cut (not work-in-progress) DVD copies of a single body of work you have directed within the past three calendar years demonstrating creative and technical ability. We strongly encourage narrative submissions featuring a complete story with a beginning, middle and end. Please label each disc with the title, running time, your name, email address and primary phone number.
  2. The following items (items 2a-2d) should be stapled and assembled in the following order (Due to our submission process, please do not submit these materials bound in a notebook or any special presentation folder/binder.):
  1. completed and signed application;
  2. comprehensive resume detailing all applicable experience;
  3. biography no longer than one page in length;
  4. [OPTIONAL] letter(s) of recommendation. Recommendations from entertainment industry professionals (i.e. producers, directors, executive, etc.) are encouraged, but not required. No more than three (3) letters per applicant will be accepted.
