FOR THE RECORD, a program of the Women In Film Foundation, has documented the first phase of the history of Women In Film, Los Angeles. It was created by Mollie Gregory, a former WIF president, to collect, organize, and archive events, programs, minutes of board meetings, photos, transcribing recorded Crystal and Lucy Awards, and conducting many interviews with members of the organization from 1973 to 2012.
The interviews present lively personal recollections through the decades, the triumphs, the challenges, and their observations of how the organization evolved as women’s career opportunities changed in the entertainment industry and in the world.

Since WIF began, hundreds of women in the industry have served on its boards of directors, an unbroken chain of service that has functioned for 40 years. Members of those boards have included many of the most accomplished and groundbreaking women (and a few men)—producers, directors, writers, agents, and executives. Their combined experience is a powerful source of expertise and information for anyone working in the industry today.
Any history of women in the entertainment industry is not complete without Women in Film, the organization founded by Tichi Wilkerson Miles, publisher of The Hollywood Reporter, and eight other women in 1973 that quickly expanded into national and international chapters.
This year, FOR THE RECORD will contact members from the over 17 national and 19 international chapters of Women In Film to share their history with us. Their perspectives are essential to a global awareness of what women have faced, how they have overcome obstacles and succeeded around the world.
The edited interviews will be available as a series of CDs: “Women In Film: For The Record.” It will offer members valuable, timely information about the realities of working in the media industries. It will inspire them with past and present perspectives about how Women In Film has grown and flourished.
