Women In Film

The Women In Film in Park City Program is pleased to announce that FREEDOM RIDERS, produced by Laurens Grant, has been chosen for docuweeks!  Laurens was one of the panelists at our 2010 Sundance Film Festival program.

FREEDOM RIDERS screens as part of the International Documentary Association [IDA]'s 14th annual DocuWeeks™, a documentary theatrical showcase designed to qualify films for consideration for the Academy Awards. This year's selected films are a strong lineup of 17 features and 5 shorts to screen in New York City and Los Angeles.  For more information on the screening CLICK HERE.

The WIFI Shorts Program is a celebration of filmmakers from all corners of the world, produced by the members of the Women In Film International Committee (WIFI).  This year, for the 4th Annual Shorts Program, WIFI has partnered with the Korean Cultural Center Los Angeles to showcase and celebrate the dynamic works of emerging and established Korean and Korean-American filmmakers.

We are currently seeking entries for exhibition this year program.  The films can be about any topic, but at least one above-the-line member of the production team (writer, director, actor, producer, cinematographer, etc.) must be of Korean descent.  This includes Korean-Americans.

  WIF congratulates members Nina Shaw and Ivy Kagan Bierman (pictured left to right) on making The Hollywood Reporter's "Power Lawyers 2010" issue last weekend.  Nina is a partner at Del, Shaw, Moonves, Tanaka, Finkelstein, & Lezcano.  Her client list includes such names as Jamie Foxx and Laurence Fishburne.  Ivy is a partner at Loeb & Loeb.  Her practice includes the representation of entertainment and related companies in labor, production, distribution, and technology.

WIF Board Member and Chair of the WIF/TV&Media Committee, Danica Krislovich recently won two Telly Awards for directing and producing a video short for the Raise Hope for Congo campaign of the ENOUGH Project.

Women In Film hosted a membership table at a prime location this year at the popular annual Cine Gear Expo, held June 4th-6th on the Paramount lot.  Despite the staggering ratio of men to women at 50:1, the women in attendance gravitated to the WIF table, resulting in a record number of new sign-ups.

“The most commonly asked question,” said WIF Membership Chair Candace Bowen, “is ‘why should I join WIF?’ And our answer is simple – WIF delivers. WIF can help you accomplish your goals.”
